Federal Bank gains 4%; Q3 profit tanks 38%

The bank has posted a net profit of Rs. 1627.20 mn for the quarter ended December 31, 2015 as compared to Rs. 2646.90 mn for the quarter ended December 31, 2014.

Federal Bank was up 4% at Rs.49. The bank has posted a net profit of Rs. 1627.20 mn for the quarter ended December 31, 2015 as compared to Rs. 2646.90 mn for the quarter ended December 31, 2014. 

Total Income has decreased from Rs. 20900.10 mn for the quarter ended December 31, 2014 to Rs. 20860.70 million for the quarter ended December 31, 2015.

The scrip opened at Rs. 48.25 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 51 and Rs. 47.85 respectively. So far 6230172(NSE+BSE) shares were traded on the counter. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 8292.3 crore.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 2 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 79.73 on 03-Jul-2015 and a 52 week low of Rs. 47.45 on 12-Jan-2016. Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 56.3 and Rs. 47.45 respectively.

DCB Bank surges 6%; Q3 net profit dips 3%

The Bank has posted a net profit of Rs. 412.00 mn for the quarter ended December 31, 2015 as compared to Rs. 425.00 mn for the quarter ended December 31, 2014.


DCB Bank was higher by 6% at Rs. 79 despite Q3 profit being lower by 3% on higher tax cost.

The Bank has posted a rise of 29.9% in its net profit at Rs. 581 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2015 as compared to Rs. 447.2 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2014.

The bank's total income has increased by 7.54% at Rs. 3,766.7 crore for the quarter against Rs. 3,086 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The bank has registered 36.2% up in NII at Rs.1173 crore.

The scrip opened at Rs. 917.45 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 931.95 and Rs. 914.85 respectively. So far 487363(NSE+BSE) shares were traded on the counter. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 54167.51 crore.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 988.5 on 31-Jul-2015 and a 52 week low of Rs. 784.45 on 12-Jun-2015. Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 952 and Rs. 905.2 respectively.

Orange to acquire Bharti Airtel's units in Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone

Orange will acquire 100% of the two companies’ share capital. The consolidated revenue of the two companies is around 275 million euros.

Orange and Bharti Airtel International (Netherlands) BV (“Airtel”) have signed an agreement leading to Orange’s acquisition of Airtel’s operations in Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone. Orange will acquire 100% of the two companies’ share capital. The consolidated revenue of the two companies is around 275 million euros. These acquisitions will be implemented in partnership with Orange’s subsidiaries in the Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal.

The outlay for Orange for these transactions will be based on the financials of Airtel’s two subsidiaries for the year ended March 31, 2016 and will represent the equivalent of 7.9 times Airtel’s EBITDA in these two countries at this time. The completion of these transactions remains subject to approval by the competent authorities.

These acquisitions provide a clear illustration of Orange’s international development strategy, which places a priority on accelerating growth in high-potential, emerging markets where the Group is not already present.

Through this deal, Orange will reinforce its presence in Africa with two additional countries, adding almost 5.5 million customers to its mobile customer base. This acquisition marks an important step forward in Orange’s dynamic growth strategy and will bring the Group’s African footprint up to 20 countries in 2016.

This is further to the initial agreement signed between Airtel and Orange in July 2015 regarding the potential acquisition of Airtel’s operations in Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Chad and Congo Brazzaville. The agreements regarding potential transactions in the remaining two countries have lapsed.

Lazard and Société Générale were advisors to Orange for this transaction. Airtel was advised by Arma Partners LLP.


Bharti Airtel Ltd is currently trading at Rs. 320.7, up by Rs. 5.55 or 1.76% from its previous closing of Rs. 315.15 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 320 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 321 and Rs. 318 respectively. So far 148131(NSE+BSE) shares were traded on the counter. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 125978.06 crore.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 5 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 452.45 on 21-Jul-2015 and a 52 week low of Rs. 304.65 on 14-Dec-2015. Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 332.55 and Rs. 314.5 respectively.

Piramal Enterprises: Piramal Enterprises Ltd. has sold BST-CarGel, its cartilage repair product, to med-tech company Smith & Nephew, for an undisclosed sum, according to a business daily.

Radico Khaitan: HSBC Global Investments Funds reduced stake in liquor firm Radico Khaitan to 5.89%, according to reports. HSBC sold 8,52,192 shares of Radico Khaitan.

Crompton Greaves: Avantha Group Company CG has been awarded a contract from Denmark’s national electricity transmission system operator Energinet.dk to provide power transformers and Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) for the Kriegers Flak wind farm project in the Baltic Sea.

IndusInd Bank:The Bank has posted rise of 30% in its net profit of Rs. 581 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2015 as compared to Rs. 447.2 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2014. The bank has announced that it has partnered with PayU India to revolutionize Digital Banking & Payments.

Bajaj Auto: Bajaj Auto is undertaking test-runs of its proposed quadricycle 'Qute' in various cities, according to a business daily. The Pune-based company is test-running Qute to ascertain the challenges it may face on Indian roads, such as speed control and load handling, reports the financial newspaper.

Godfrey Phillips: Japan Tobacco (JT), the world’s third-largest listed tobacco company, is in talks to acquire a part of the promoter’s stake in Godfrey Phillips India (GPI), reports a business daily. The KK Modi Group, which owns ~47% in GPI, is also believed to be in talks with long-time partner Philip Morris International for a similar deal, according to the newspaper.

State Bank of India: State Bank of India (SBI) plans to monetise non-core assets and list someof its subsidiaries to meet capital requirements as well as meet Basel-III norms, which will kick in from March 2019.

Oil & Natural Gas Corp:  ONGC plans to cut operational costs by at least 10% as oil prices trade at 12-year lows, according to a business daily. ONGC plans to hire a consultant to suggest cost cuts and controlling of operating expenditure, reports the daily.

Reliance Communications: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked Reliance Communications (RCom) to pay INR 5,384 crore for sharing its 800 MHz spectrum in 16 circles, reports a business daily. The spectrum liberalisation fee would apply to all circles where airwaves were not sold via auctions, adds the financial newspaper.

Coal India: Coal India Ltd. is making its biggest tech overhaul in four decades to check rampant theft as it gears up for the entry of private mining companies in the coal sector, reports a business daily.

IVRCL Ltd: The company has made an allotment of 1,94,375 equity shares of Rs.2/- each, at issue price of Rs. 24.39/- per share, on January 12, 2016 to SREI EQUIPMENT FINANCE LIMITED (CDR Lender) who have signed the Master Restructuring Agreement. This allotment is towards conversion of FITL into equity.

JSW Steel: Crude steel production dropped 15 per cent to 2.70 million tonne (MT) in October-December this fiscal due to planned shutdown of blast furnaces for capacity expansion. JSW Group had recorded 3.17 MT crude steel production in the third quarter of 2014-15.

Federal Bank: The bank posted a 38.5 per cent drop in net profit at Rs. 162.7 crore for the third quarter ended December due to a rise in bad loans.The total income of the lender also came down to Rs. 2,086 crore during the quarter, from Rs. 2,090 crore in the year-ago period.

DCB Bank: The bank reported 3 per cent decline in standalone net profit at Rs 41.20 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2015-16.Total income of the bank increased to Rs 477 crore during the third quarter of current fiscal, from Rs 404 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal.

Omkar Speciality Chemicals Ltd: The company has received environment clearance for its Manufacturing Unit - V located in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra.

Tata Power: Tata Power has raised Rs. 500 crore through unsecured redeemable, taxable non-convertible debentures (NCDs) on a private placement basis.

Jet Airways: The  company announced special inaugural fares for flights between India and Amsterdam, the airline's new European gateway, commemorating the commencement of its maiden flights to Amsterdam on March 27, 2016.

Amara Raja: Amara Raja Group has committed an investment of Rs.50 bn in Andhra Pradesh across business verticals such as electronics, auto, IT, energy and infrastructure.

Indian Rupee opened higher at 66.82/$, up by 4 paise in early trade on Wednesday as against the previous close of 66.86/$. On Tuesday, Indian rupee extended the weakness against the greenback, impacted by foreign capital outflows and ensuing fall in domestic equities. On macroeconomic front, India's industrial output declined in November, while retail inflation scaled higher.    In this respect, IIP reading contracted by 3.2%, a four year low. The number is in complete contrast with the growth of 9.9% during the prior month. Of late, Industrial production data has been very mercurial and it is difficult to gauge the actual trend. Consumer Inflation (CPI) for December inched higher towards 5.61%, when compared with the reading of 5.41% during November.

On the global front, in China, the central bank has reduced intervention in the Forex markets this week after utilizing huge quantum of the Forex reserves in order to stem the weakness in Yuan.  Effectively, the arbitrage between the onshore and offshore Yuan has narrowed considerably. Market focus is now accentuated on slew of Chinese macro numbers releasing next week.

On Tuesday, the rupee ended at 66.86/$, weaker by 5 paise. The currency touched a high and low of 66.93 and 66.97 respectively. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 66.89 and for Euro stood at 72.74 on January 12, 2016. While, the RBI’s reference rate for the Yen stood at 56.91, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 97.1518.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.73% at 10,864, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.78% at 11,566. Out of 1,76 stocks traded on the NSE, 268 declined and 1,109 advanced today. A total of 29 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while eight stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.


Bombay Stock Exchange Up
At 9:26 AM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 24,857 up 175 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 7,567 up 56 points.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.73% at 10,864, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.78% at 11,566.

All sectors are in green on BSE.

Tata Motors, BHEL, Bharti Airtel, Infosys, RIL, Sun Pharma, Tata Steel and Adani Ports  are among the gainers, whereas TCS, United Brewries, Kartnataka Bank, Mindtree and Bayer Cropscience  are losing sheen on BSE.

The India VIX (Volatility) index is down 2.95% to 18.1600.

Asian markets are in the green with Japan's Nikkei up nearly 2%. South Korea has added 0.7%. US stocks ended higher on Tuesday despite persistent worries over sliding oil prices, as technology and healthcare shares rallied towards the close of trade. The main stock indexes started the day higher but dipped into negative territory by the afternoon amid continued pressure on oil prices. However, stocks managed to recover later in the session. The S&P 500 gained 0.8%, Dow Jones advanced 0.7% and Nasdaq Composite climbed 1%, snapping an eight-day losing streak. The Nymex crude oil futures lost 3.1% to end at US$30.44 per barrel - its lowest close since Dec. 1, 2003 after dipping as low as US$29.93.

TCS trades at 52-week low ahead of Q3 earnings

TCS slumped down 2.05%  from its previous closing of Rs. 2363 on the BSE.
The scrip opened at Rs. 2367.95 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 2367.95 and Rs. 2313 respectively. So far 1063524(NSE+BSE) shares were traded on the counter. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 462840.81 crore.
