Markets consolidate, Nifty takes u-turn from 8460 mark

Indian benchmark indices retreated after hitting a day’s high in the first hour of the trading session. We had talked of 8460 as the resistance for the Nifty, likewise, it hit the 8460 mark and then took a u-turn. 8400 will still act as an immediate support for now.
 
Finally, both the Nifty and the Sensex closed marginally higher by 0.23% and 0.08% respectively, maintaining consolidation for the fifth consecutive day.
 
Broader markets outperformed, wherein Small-cap and Mid-cap indices surged 0.65% and 0.47% respectively, and market bias remained positive with 1509 advances and 1215 declines.
 
On the sectoral front, all the sectors ended in the green, where Metals exceled again with 2.38% gains. Nalco, Jindal Steel, Vedanta, Hindalco and Tata Steel led the move with gains ranging between 3-5%. Otherwise, Auto and Realty closed on a flat to positive note.
 
On the stock specific front, Ultratech Cements, BHEL and Hindalco were the top gainers; while Idea Cellular, NTPC and GAIL were the top losers for the Nifty.

Market maintain early gains; Fertilisers and Paper stocks soar

Nifty Metal touched a high at 3005.60 level gaining 2.33%. All the stocks from Nifty Metal are advancing with Hindustan Zinc Limited leading the pack. Hindustan Zinc Limited touched a new 52 week high of Rs 296.40 per share, up by Rs 11.45 per share or 4.02%.
 
At 12:45 PM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 27312.95 up 77.29 points, while NSE NIFTY is trading at 8427.35 up 29.35 points. A total of 41 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 4 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
 
The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.51% at 12737.3, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.64% at 12887.03.
 
BSE Mid-cap and BSE Small-cap are outperforming major indices.
 
All sectors are trading in green on NSE except Realty at lunch hour.
 
Hindustan Unilever Limited, Tata Steel, BHEL and Grasim are among the gainers, whereas Bharti Airtel, Dr Reddy, BPCL, GAIL and NTPC are losing sheen on NSE.
 
The INDIA VIX is up 0.65% at 15.16.

Paper stocks are gaining on Wednesday’s trading session. JK PAPER is trading up by 3.69%. KAUNTAM PAPER is trading up by 3.35%. RAINBOW PAPERS gained by 9.46%.
 
VEDANTA LIMITED is shining in Metal sector. The stock touched a high of Rs 246.20 per share gaining Rs 10.1 per share or 4.2%.

 HINDUSTHAN ZINC LIMITED opened at Rs 293 per share gaining Rs 8.05 per share or 2.83%. The stock touched new 52 week high of Rs 296.40 per share, gaining Rs 11.45 per share or 4.02%.
 
EXCIDE INDUSTRIES LIMITED is leading the pack of Nifty Auto. The stock touched the high of Rs 188.40 per share up by Rs 5.65 per share or 3.09%.
 Tata Elxsi is leading the pack of Nifty IT. The stock touched the high of Rs 1519.65 per share gaining Rs 96.55 per share or 6.78%.

TRANSFORMERS AND RECTIFIERS  LIMITED is up by 18.7%.
 
ANDHRA CEMENT is up by 8%. Pokarna is up by 9%.

Market trading firm; Hindustan Zinc, BHEL gain more than 3%

Private Bank and Realty opened in red on Wednesday’s trading session losing 0.05% and 0.19% respectively. PSU Banks gained the most at the time of opening. FMCG and Pharma opened flat today.
 
Nifty Metal touched a high at 2998.05 level gaining 2.07%. All the stocks from Nifty Metal are advancing with Hindustan Zinc Limited leading the pack. Hindustan Zinc Limited touched a new 52 week high of Rs 296.40 per share, up by Rs 11.45 per share or 4.02%.
 
At 10:45 AM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 27381.65 up 145.99 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8448.75 up 50.75 points. A total of 41 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 4 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
 
The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.69% at 12759.96, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.74% at 12899.01.

Market firmly up near 100-DMA

At 9:15 AM, the BSE Sensex opened higher by 54 points at 27273, while the Nifty50 opened higher by 22 points at 8419 mark.
 
The Indian rupee opened higher at Rs 67.93 as against Rs 68.09 per dollar on Tuesday.
 
Nifty gained momentum and touched high of 8440.90 level in the first half of the Tuesday’s trading session. FMCG sector was top gainer in the Tuesday’s trading session.
 
The FTSE 100 of the U.K. declined 1.46 per cent, CAC 40 of France corrected 0.46 per cent and DAX of Germany slipped 0.13 per cent. 
 
European market started with a weak start on Tuesday and pared losses in remaining day following the U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May. She stated that U.K. is all set for complete separation from European Union.
 
US markets closed in red on Tuesday.
 
The SGX Nifty index is trading flat at 8418.50.
 
Twenty-one companies are going to announce their result on Wednesday’s trading session.
 
Key results to watch out for in Wednesday’s trading session are KPIT, Hindustan Oil Exploration Limited, Muthoot Finance. Investors would be keen to watch the performance of these stocks in Wednesday.

Nifty fails to hold 8,400 mark

FMCG, Power, Utilities, Realty, IT and Consumer Durable stocks led from the front, while Metal, Oil & Gas, Finance, Auto, Telecom and Energy stocks were among the major losers on BSE. At close, the market breadth was skewed in favour of the bears. About 752 stocks declined, 682 advanced and 68 remained unchanged on the NSE.

The stock market erased morning gains and closed lower on Tuesday due to profit-booking in metal, oil & gas and PSU stocks. European markets, which opened lower, also weighed on domestic shares.

The Nifty Bank index snapped its longest winning run in two years amid weakness in broader market and profit selling. Nifty Bank index closed lower by 0.21%, HDFC Bank and Kotak Bank were the top losers on Bank Nifty index, down by 1%, while Canara Bank and Axis Bank advanced by 2% each.

Finally, the BSE Sensex ended with a loss of 53 points at 27,236. The BSE Sensex opened at 27,332 touched an intra-day high of 27,381 and low of 27,179.

The NSE Nifty closed with a loss of 15 points at 8,398. The NSE Nifty opened at 8,415 hitting a high of 8,441 and low of 8,378.

Sentiments remained cautious after reports that the IMF has cut India's growth forecast for the current fiscal by one percentage point, due to the temporary negative consumption shock induced by cash shortages and payment disruptions associated with the recent currency note withdrawal and exchange initiative. In an update of its flagship publication the World Economic Outlook, the IMF said India is likely to grow by 6.6% only in FY17, down from 7.6% estimated earlier and marginally behind China that is pegged to grow at 6.7% in 2017.

FMCG, Power, Utilities, Realty, IT and Consumer Durable stocks led from the front, while Metal, Oil & Gas, Finance, Auto, Telecom and Energy stocks were among the major losers on BSE.

Among the 50 stocks of the Nifty, NTPC, Asian Paints, Hero MotoCorp, Axis Bank and HUL were among the gainers, whereas Reliance Industries, Coal India, Adani Ports, ONGC, Infratel and Lupin were among the losers today.

At close, the market breadth was skewed in favour of the bears. About 752 stocks declined, 682 advanced and 68 remained unchanged on the NSE.

The India VIX (Volatility) index was up 2% at 15.39.

In the broader market, the BSE Smallcap index gained 0.33% while the BSE Midcap index was unchanged compared to its previous closing.

The rupee was trading up by 14 paise at 67.96 per US dollar.

On the global front, Asian stocks closed on a mixed note. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng advanced 0.54%, China’s Shanghai Composite ended marginally up, while Japan’s Nikkei slipped 1.5%.

All European markets were trading in red ahead of UK Prime Minister Theresa May's speech later today. May is likely to provide details on the UK's exit from the European Union. Germany’s DAX decreased 83 points or 0.7% to 11,472, France’s CAC decreased 0.54% to 4,856 and UK’s FTSE 100 decreased 0.33% to 7,303.

Reliance Industries tanked 3.3% on the BSE. The company reported a 4% rise in its third quarter net profit after a dip in refinery margins was offset by robust petrochemical earnings. The consolidated net profit of Rs 7,506 crore in October-December quarter, was 3.6% higher than Rs 7,245 crore in the same period quarter a year ago.

NIIT Technologies slipped 2.2% after the company reported consolidated results for the quarter which were largely in-line with street estimates. Its revenue for the quarter came in 0.2% higher than the estimated figure of Rs 692.5 crore. EBITDA for the quarter came in 3.8% higher than the estimated figure of Rs112 crore.

Tata Global Beverages stocks closed flat at Rs 128. The company intends to divest its stake in its joint venture, Zhejiang Tata Tea Extraction.

Hindustan Zinc slipped 1% after the company posted 44% jump sequentially in mined metal production for December quarter.

Logistics stocks closed higher on Tuesday. The government has finally rolled out the date for the long awaited GST implementation, which has now been extended to July 1, 2017. FM Arun Jaitley has informed during a press meet on Monday that the draft of integrated GST and IGST, taxes that will be levied by Centre, SGST and CGST will be finalised in their next meeting on February 18, 2017. Logistics stocks such as Snowman Logistics, Shreyas Shipping & Logistics, Patel Integrated Logistics, Allcargo Logistics, GATI and Aegis Logistics are up by more than 1%.

Sensex drops 70 points; RIL, Adani Ports down

The Indian stock markets are trading lower due to profit booking and negative global clues. European indices declined today and ahead of U.K. PM speech.

At 2:39 PM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 27,210 down 79 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,386 down 27 points. A total of 41 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while eight stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.12% at 12,658, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.25% at 12,794.
 
The Metal, Financial Services, Auto and Pharma sectors are trading in red, while IT, FMCG and Realty index in green.
 
Tech Mahindra, Hindustan Unilever, Sunpharma, Zee Entertainment and Axis Bank are among the gainers, whereas Reliance, Hindalco, Tata Steel, Adani Ports and CIPLA are losing sheen on NSE in the first trading hour.
 
The INDIA VIX is up 1.78% at 15.3325.
 
AXIS BANK
allotted equity shares under ESOP scheme. Axis Bank and PNB are the two top gainers in the Bank sector today.
 
Despite of good results in Q3 FY17, RELIANCE INDUSTRIES is trading in red. The stock today hit a low of Rs 1049 per share, down by Rs 27.25 per share or 2.53%.
 
DELTA CROP is expected to announce good results on Tuesday’s trading session. Delta Corp has received a licence for operations of a casino in Gangtok, Sikkim. The stock today hit a high of Rs 139.50 per share, gaining Rs 4.70 per share or 3.46%.
 
CROMPTON GRIEVES bags order worth USD 105 mn from PT PLN Indonesia. The stock is interesting to watch out for in Tuesday’s trading session.

Sensex and Nifty opened in green

At 9:15 AM, the BSE Sensex opened higher by 0.16 at 27318, while the Nifty50 opened higher by 0.13% at 8420 mark.
 
Advance Decline ratio is in favour of advances with 543 Advances and 138 Declines.
 
Further resistance for Nifty would be at 8420 followed by 8460.
 
The Indian rupee opened lower by 0.0658 paise against US Dollar at 68.09 per dollar versus 68.1558 on Monday.

Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced WPI inflation index on Monday. WPI inflation rises to 3.39% in December 2016 from 3.15% in November 2016. In December 2015, WPI inflation was a negative 1.06%.

The CAC closed at 4882.18 losing 0.82%; the DAX closed at 11554.71 losing 74.47 points, while UK’s FTSE ended the session lower by 0.15 per cent at 7327.13. European stocks closed in red on Monday as investors are seeking more details on UK’s Brexit plan and the inauguration of president-elect Donald Trump in the U.S. later this week.
 
US financial markets were closed on Monday to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. US market would be volatile due the fourth-quarter season.
 
The SGX Nifty index gained 6 points closing at 8439 level.

Nifty managed to close above 8400 level; PSU Banks and Realty were the top performers

Indian benchmark indices opened on a negative note taking weak cues from the Asian bourses this morning, but recovered in the late morning session itself and thereafter remained standstill throughout the session. Nifty managed to close above crucial level of 8400. Sensex closed above 27300 level.
At closing bell, the S&P BSE Sensex closed at 27302.64 up 64.58 points, while NSE Nifty closed at 8417.15 up 16.80 points. A total of 46 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 11 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE. 
Broader markets outperformed that encouraged market breadth to remain positive with 1562 advances and 1218 declines. 
The BSE Mid-cap Index closed at 12673.00 up by 0.27%, whereas BSE Small-cap Index closed at 12762.09 up by 0.57%. 
Adani Port, Idea, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, SBI and Bosch Limited were among the Nifty 50 top gainers, whereas HCL Tech, Infosys, Eicher Motors, Tata Power and Sun pharma are among the Nifty 50 top losers.
The INDIA VIX is trading at 14.97 up 4.08%.
The results announced in today’s trading session were quite impressive.
LIC Housing Finance reported increase in revenue by Rs 71.48 cr or 2.07%. Its net profit increased by Rs 4.5 cr or 0.91%. 
HIL Ltd, a small-cap cement and cement product manufacturer has announced its Q3FY17 results on January 16, 2017 where company posted a de-growth in revenues and a net loss on quarter on quarter basis. 
Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd. reported growth in its revenue and net profit by 9.18% and 5.22% respectively. 
On the sectoral front, Realty sector remained positive throughout the day and closed making 1.1% gains, banks and financial services too rallied 1%. 
Jewellery stocks were gaining in Monday’s trading session. Gitanjali Gems touched a high of Rs 73.50 per share, up by Rs 7.15 per share or 10.77%. 
IT tumbled post heavy weight results and ahead of HCL TECH results. Nifty FMCG and Nifty IT closed flat to negative while all other sectors ended in green. 
Nifty Pharma closed losing 0.26%. Pharma giants remained under pressure of scrutiny of their business by US government. Sunpharma was the top loser which pulled down the Pharma index in Monday’s trading session. 
Further resistance for Nifty would be at 8420 followed by 8460.

Nifty struggling for 8400 level

Nifty is struggling to be above its crucial level of 8400. Realty and Metal are top performing sectors. IT and FMCG are in the weak position.
Market Bias is positive with 918 advances and 522 declines on NSE.
Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced the WPI data today. WPI inflation is up at 3.39%.
At 12.15 PM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 27260.43 up 22.37 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8401.95 up 1.60 points. A total of 41 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 10 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.32% at 12679.49, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.53% at 12756.95.
Only FMCG, IT and Pharma are trading in red, all other sectors are trading in green on NSE.
Adani Port, Idea, Tata Steel, Tata Motors are among the gainers, whereas HCL Tech, Infosys, Eicher Motors, Tata Power and Bosch are losing sheen on NSE.
The INDIA VIX is trading at 15.065 up 4.75%.
Tata Motors is trading at Rs 523.30 per share, up by Rs 8.45 per share or 1.64%. The stock has seen the addition of 731 contracts or 3.28% in its Open Interest.
DCB Bank has witnessed the 17.81% or 271 addition of contracts in its Open Interest. The stock is trading at Rs 122.65 per share, down by Rs 1.25 per share or 1.01%.
Tata Steel is top gainer, trading at Rs 456.10 per share up by 2.18%.

ensex, Nifty gained some momentum

In this week, more than fifty companies are expected to announce their quarterly result for the quarter ended on December 31, 2016. Market is expected to remain volatile throughout this week.
At 10:20 AM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 27273.5 up 35.44 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8404.2 up 3.85 points. A total of 13 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 4 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.35% at 12683.82, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.42% at 12743.77.
Only FMCG and IT sectors are trading in red, All other sectors are trading in green on NSE.
Axis Bank, ITC, HDFC, GAIL, Tech Mahindra are among the gainers, whereas Idea, TCS, Hindalco, Infosys, NTPC are losing sheen on NSE in the first trading hour.

Gitanjali gems limited stock from small cap index, has witnessed spurt in volume by more than 2.94 times. The stock is up by 7.84%.
Aditya birla fashion and retail limited stock from mid-cap index, is trading at Rs 144.60 per share, up by 3.47%.
Adani ports is among the top gainers, trading at Rs 301.15 per share, up by 2.41%.
