Sensex, Nifty volatile; metal, oil & gas drag

Some buying activity is seen in pharma, IT, auto, consumer durable and utilities sectors, while metal, oil & gas, banking and energy sectors are showing weakness on BSE. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.05% at 10,223, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.30% at 10,730.


At 9:25 AM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 24,490 up mere four points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,733 up 49 points.

Sun Pharma, NTPC, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, Lupin, Infosys and Axis Bank are among the gainers, whereas Coal India, ONGC, BHEL, Cipla and GAIL are losing sheen on BSE.

Indian Rupee opened at 67.90/$,down 7 paise in early trade on Tuesday as against the previous close of 67.83/$. On the global front, US dollar continues to gain ground against currencies of commodity exporting economies. In this respect, Russian Ruble, South African Rand and Turkish Lira have weakened substantially during the past few trading sessions.
The India VIX (Volatility) index is up 1.95% to 18.6225. Out of 1,745 stocks traded on the NSE, 508 declined and 824 advanced today.

A total of seven stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 11 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
