“In view of availability of coal at certain places, it has been decided to further offer coal under special forward e-auction for power producers-phase III for the balance period of the this fiscal,” CIL says in a notice.

CIL will put on offer 3 million tonnes in the third round for those distressed power plants which have neither linkages nor power purchase agreements (PPA), a company official has been quoted as saying.

CIL had already put on offer 7 million tonnes of coal under the two phases of special auction held so far in FY16, according to the official. The two auctions were conducted in September and October.

Subsequently, the scheme was modified to launch the second phase of special e-auction for power producers which was conducted in November, the CIL official says.
The third phase will be held from 16 to 18 February.

CIL accounts for more than 80% of domestic coal production.
