Adani Ports, GAIL, Dr.Reddy's, Tata Motors, NTPC, Cipla and ITC are among the gainers, whereas HDFC, Bharti Airtel, L&T, BHEL, Maruti Suzuki and Tata Steel are losing sheen on BSE.
The INDIA VIX was up 2.74% at 18.5350. Out of 1,753 stocks traded on the NSE,572 declined and 773 advanced today.
A total of 10 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while eight stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
Indian Rupee slipped for the third consecutive session. Indian Rupee opened at 68.15/$,down 11 paise in early trade on Thursday as against the previous close of 68.04/$. Yesterday, rupee tumbled, with values moving well above 68 levels against the greenback. Month end demand for US dollar from the importers exerted downward pressure on the Indian rupee. Meanwhile, market participants remained cautious ahead of US Federal Reserve policy statement.
