Live Stock Market Updates - Sensex ends 71 points down

Closing Bell:

Finally, the BSE Sensex ended with a loss of 71 points at 28,224. The BSE Sensex opened at 28,373 touched an intra-day high of 28,433 and low of 27,179.
The NSE Nifty closed with a loss of 16 points at 8,706. The NSE Nifty opened at 8,749 hitting a high of 8,769 and low of 8,691.

Live Market:

The Sensex rallies over 100 points while the broader Nifty50moved above its crucial psychological level of 8,750 on the back of buying in metal, oil & gas and auto stocks.

 At 2:47 PM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 28,201 down 94 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,699 down 23 points.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.05% at 13,254 whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.16% at 12,908.

Power Grid, Axis Bank, Infosys, TCS, Hero MotoCorp and Reliance Industries and are among the gainers, whereas ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, GAIL, HDFC, L&T, Maruti Suzuki and HUL are losing sheen on BSE.

Some buying activity is seen in IT, technology, realty, oil &gas, power, metal, energy, pharma, auto and banking sectors, while telecom, FMCG and oil & gas sectors are showing weakness on BSE.

The INDIA VIX is down 2.95% at 14.1350. Out of 1,869 stocks traded on the NSE, 658 declined, 895 advanced and 316 remained unchanged today.

A total of 78 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 24 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

Narayana Hrudayalaya Ltd is currently trading at Rs. 341.95, up by Rs. 16.4 or 5.04% from its previous close of Rs. 325.55 on the BSE. The company experienced a spurt in volumes by more than 209.78 times.

Bank of India slipped 0.65%. Bank of India has sold 18% stake in the insurance joint venture Star Union Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company Ltd (SUD) to its Japanese partner.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd is currently trading at Rs. 541, up by Rs. 10.4 or 1.96% from its previous closing of Rs. 530.6 on the BSE.

IRB Infrastructure Developers gained 1% to Rs.259. IRB Infrastructure has received a letter of award from National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for Rs 2,100-crore highway project in Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Pfizer slipped 1.6%. Pfizer has completed the process of transferring four products to Piramal Enterprises after getting necessary regulatory approvals.

BPCL dropped 1.7% to Rs.610. BPCL Kochi Refinery is all set to become a world-class refinery with crude oil processing capacity of 15.5 MMTPA, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said.


Yes Bank gained 1% after the bank will raise Rs.330 crore (approximately $50 million equivalent) through an issue of a 7-year Green Infrastructure Bonds to FMO, the Dutch Development Bank, on a private placement basis. FMO will be investing in the bank’s bonds through FMO’s own sustainable bonds. This is FMO’s first Investment in a Green Bond issued by a bank in India. 

8K Miles Software Services Ltd jumped 3.5%. 8K Miles Software has informed BSE that the Board of Directors of the Company has fixed October 13, 2016 as the record date for the purpose of ascertaining the eligibility of the shareholders entitled for stock split & free share issue.

Suven Life Sciences gained 1.5%. Suven Life Sciences has been granted two product patents, one each in India and Japan, for the molecules to be developed for the treatment of neuro-degenerative diseases.

Indian Oil Corporation is trading marginally lower at BSE. Indian Oil Corporation and the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), have signed an agreement to jointly explore cleaner fuels.

Indiabulls Housing Finance is trading marginally higher at Rs.816.50 after the company said that it raised up to Rs.7,000 crore from non-convertible debentures (NCDs) to fund its business expansion.

Jet Airways slipped 1.4% to Rs.534. The airline company is negotiating a joint venture agreement with Air France-KLM to expand its commercial co-operation with the two European airlines, as per media reports.

JK Paper gained 0.82% to Rs.61.70. JK Paper is exploring the possibility of enhancing forest plantation in Myanmar to secure its key raw material for operations in India.

The rupee opened higher six paise at 66.54/$ against US Dollar Tuesday as against the previous close of 66.60/$.

Asian markets are trading mixed. Shanghai Composite and Nikkei 225 are trading marginally higher while Nikkei 225 slipped 0.33%.

At  1:02 PM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 28,327 up 33 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,741 up 17 points.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.33% at 13,304 whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.59% at 12,964.
