Sensex ends 145 points up

Closing Bell:

Finally, the BSE Sensex ended with a gain of 145 points at 28,130. The BSE Sensex opened at 28,032 touched an intra-day high of 28,213 and low of 28,031.57.

The NSE Nifty closed with a gain of 40 points at 8,699. The NSE Nifty opened at 8,693 hitting a high of 8,727 and low of 8,678.30.

Live Market:
The domestic market is trading higher amid positive global cues along with strong buying among financials and index heavyweight RIL. Banking stocks extend gains. Bank Nifty surges 1.5% or 287 points to 19,700. ICICI Bank was the top gainer from this space, up 4.8% to Rs 278.

The Indian stock market gained amid a rally in Asian markets as crude oil traded near a 15-month high following an unexpected drop in American crude oil stockpiles and ahead of the outcome of the European Central Bank's meeting.

The BSE Sensex rose 200 points while the broader Nifty50 moved above its crucial psychological level of 8,700 on the back of broad-based buying interest amid strong global cues.

At 2:43 pM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 28,131 up 147 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,715 up 57 points.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.24% at 13,585 whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.65% at 13,438.

ICICI Bank, Adani Ports, SBI, HDFC, Axis Bank and Bajaj Auto are among the gainers, whereas ITC, HUL and HDFC Bank are losing sheen on BSE.

Some buying activity is seen in banking, telecom, finance, metal, consumer durables and realty sectors, while oil & gas is showing weakness on BSE.

The INDIA VIX is down 2.10% at 14.3050. Out of 1,885 stocks traded on the NSE, 617 declined, 984 advanced and 284 remained unchanged today.

The INDIA VIX is down 2.10% at 14.3050. Out of 1,883 stocks traded on the NSE, 454 declined, 1,107 advanced and 322 remained unchanged today.

A total of 102 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while four stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
Reliance Industries is trading marginally higher on the BSE. The company will announce its Q2 numbers today.

NCC zoomed 2.2% to Rs 83. The NCC-BGR Consortium has been awarded the Pachhwara North Coal Block Mine Developer and Operator Project (MDO Project) by the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited. The Pachhwara North Coal Block, located in Pakur, Jharkhand, has been allocated by the Coal Ministry to the WBPDCL. The coal extracted is for use for their power plants in West Bengal.

HCC Concessions Ltd commenced commercial operations of its Rs.1,720 crore Farakka Raiganj Highways Ltd (FRHL) in Bengal. The stock is trading 3.2% higher on the BSE.

NBCC slipped 1% to Rs 251. The government will sell 15% stake in construction company NBCC at a floor price of Rs 246.50 a share on Thursday, which is expected to fetch around Rs 2,200 crore.

Suzlon gained 2% to Rs 15. Suzlon announced a joint venture with Canadian Solar for developing two solar projects of 15MW each in Telangana.

Hindustan Zinc inched up 1.3% after the company reported a 15% dip in net profit during the second quarter ended September 30, 2016 at Rs 1,902 crore on higher depreciation charges.

Tata Coffee Ltd dipped 1% after the company reported 62% increase in its consolidated net profit at Rs 44.7 crore for the quarter ended September 30.

Yes Bank advanced 1%. The bank will announce its Q2 numbers today.

KPIT Technologies zoomed 4%. The company has posted a net profit after tax, minority interest and share of profit of associates of Rs 56 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2016 as compared to Rs 74 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2015.

Nifty hits 8700, Sensex surges over 150 pts; Reliance up 1%

The Sensex is up 128.24 points or 0.5 percent at 28112.61, and the Nifty is up 37.70 points or 0.4 percent at 8696.80. 

About 972 shares have advanced, 188 shares declined, and 51 shares are unchanged. 

ICICI, ONGC, GAIL, HDFC and Reliance are top gainers. 

Reliance Industries will announce its Q2 results today. According to CNBC-TV18 poll, gross refining margin (GRMs) is expected at USD 9.5 per barrel. 


Yes Bank, Biocon, Syngene International, LIC Housing Finance, Intellect Design Arena, Praj Industries and DB Corp are expected to declare Q2 results today. 

The Indian rupee has opened lower at 66.68 a dollar compared with previous day's closing of 66.67 per dollar.

Asian stocks advanced, propelled by strong US earnings and oil prices near a 15-month high, as the third and final US presidential debate before the November 8 election got underway. 


MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 0.25 percent. Japan's Nikkei extended gains to 0.9 percent. China's CSI 300 increased 0.2 percent, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index climbed 0.6 percent.
