Sensex closes slightly up by 39 points at 28329.7; Venky's and RPP Infra zooms up by 20%

The day started with gains of 26.5 points for Nifty; and with gains of 59.3 points for Sensex. Nifty and Sensex tumbled in the afternoon session to lose 44.95 points and 137.74 points respectively. However, the market recovered in the closing hours. Nifty closed at 8778.4 levels, up by 9.35 points and Sensex closed at 28329.7 levels, up by 39.78 points. 
There were 793 advances, 845 declines and 273 unchanged stocks on NSE, reflecting mixed feelings floating in the market.

 
Broader markets have shown some positive bias till afternoon hours but slipped thereafter. However, they recovered in the closing hours. BSE Mid-cap index closed at 13506.61 levels, up by 31.63 points or 0.23%. BSE Small-cap index closed at 13582.89 levels, up by 25.29 points or 0.19%.
 
Nifty Media index was the star performer of the day. The index touched the high of 3035.40 levels, up by 2.26%. The index closed at 3022.90 levels, up by 1.84%.
 
Sun TV was the top gainer in the Nifty Media index. The stock closed at Rs 736.5 per share, up by
Rs 31.55 per share or 4.48%. DEN Networks Limited was on the second position, closing at Rs 87.50 per share, up by Rs 3.10 per share or 3.67%.
 
Bank stocks were seen to be under pressure. 10 stocks from Nifty PSU Bank stocks declined out of a total of 11 stocks. Union Bank closed at Rs 152.95 per share, down by Rs 13.60 per share or 8.17%.
 

BSE Telecom index in focus; TTML up by 9.45%.

BSE Telecom index is trading at 1285.81 levels, up by 10.09 points or 0.79%, outperforming the major indices in the market.
 
Bharti Infratel and Bharti Airtel are contributing most to the index gains.
 

Bharti Infratel is trading at Rs 314.85 per share, up by 1.53%. Bharti Airtel is trading at Rs 354.40 per share, up by 0.45%.
 

Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd., is the top gainer in the index, trading at Rs 6.95 per share, up by 9.45%. American Tower Company (ATC) has bought majority stake in VIOM Networks, and Tata Teleservices will exit VIOM if deal goes through. Tata Group holds 32% in VIOM Networks through Tata Teleservices. ATC is planning to buy out completely the 32% stake of the Tata Group.
 
Tata Communications is trading at Rs 780.4 per share, up by 2.68%.

Live Stock Market Updates - Nifty trades in red; Hindalco is down by 2.72%.


Broader markets opened in green in Thursday’s trading session. BSE Metal index is trading at 11643.63 levels and is down by 164.28 points or 1.39%.

While, Hindalco is down by 2.72%, National Aluminium is down by 2.58%, Tata Steel is down by 2.16%, Vedanta Steel is down by 1.35% and JSW Steel is down by 1.08%.
 
Tata SteelHindalco and Vedanta Steel is contributing most to the index losses and dragging the index down.
 
At 11 AM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 28217.44 down 70.48 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8743.85 down 25.10 points. A total of 53 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 4 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
 
The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.31% at 13433.71, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.08% at 13547.06.
 
Some buying activity is seen in Energy, FMCG, Finance and Healthcare indices, while Consumer Durables and Metal indices are showing weakness on BSE.
 
Power Grid, Aurobindo Pharma, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Tech Mahindra, and Hero MotoCorp are among the gainers, whereas Bank of Baroda, Cipla, BHEL, Hindalco and Coal India are losing sheen on NSE.
 
The INDIA VIX is up 1.80% at 13.59.

Opening Bell - Markets react positively to RBI's neutral Monetary Policy Stance; Nifty up by nearly 30 points

At 9:15 AM, the BSE Sensex opened higher by 59.3 points at 28349.22, while the Nifty50 opened higher by 26.5 points at the 8795.55 mark.
 

The rupee opened at 67.04 per dollar, up by 15 paise.
 
The zone of 8680-8710 is likely to act as a strong support zone in the short term, whereas on the upside, the immediate hurdle is seen around levels of 8810-8825. If Nifty sustains above these levels, its likely to test the level of 8890.
 

In sixth bi-monthly monetary policy, RBI kept the repo rate unchanged at 6.25%, reverse repo rate at 5.75% and MSF rate 6.75%.
 
The Asian markets are trading in green except Nikkei 225. Nikkei 225 is trading down by 49.44 points. Shanghai Composite is trading higher by 11.51 points, SGX Nifty is trading higher by 7.5 points.
 
FTSE 100 closed higher by 2.6 points; CAC 40 of France closed higher by 12.13 points while German DAX closed lower by 6.06 points.
 
The Nasdaq rose 8.24 points and the Dow fell 35.95 points. The S&P 500 index edged up 1.59 points.
