Reliance Jio Infocomm has launched high-speed Wi-fi services for consumers at 160 locations across the country, according to a financial newspaper.

Reliance Jio started rolling out its Wi-fi services, called "Jionet", from Jammu on Sunday, according to a company statement.
The services are also currently available at centres including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat, Kolkata, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Mussoorie and Indore.

“The services will be complimentary before commercial launch,” an official has been quoted as saying.
Consumers at other locations can test the Reliance Jio high-speed network which offers internet speed between 10 megabits per second (MBPS) and 40 Mbps, says the official.

Meanwhile, sales of 4G mobile handsets surpassed those of 3G-enabled phones in October for the first time ever, shipment data from IDC shows.

While Reliance Jio will launch its 4G services in a couple of months, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone have already rolled out their 4G services in few cities.

Idea Cellular plans to introduce 4G services sometime in the first half of 2016.
