Finally, the BSE Sensex ended with a loss of 374 points at 28,294. The BSE Sensex opened at 28,631 touched an intra-day high of 28,630.92 and low of 28,272.
The NSE Nifty closed with a loss of 109 points at 8,723. The NSE Nifty opened at 8,808 hitting a high of 8,810 and low of 8,715.

The Indian equity market opened in red on Monday tracking subdued global cues. The Sensex fell over 150 points and Nifty moved below its crucial psychological level of 8,800 on the back of weak global cues.

The domestic market is trading lower as tracking weakness in Asian peers while investors shifted their focus from central banks to American politics. At 3:07 PM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 28,350 down 364 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,726 down 105 points.
The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.53% at 13,261 whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 0.52% at 12,892.
RIL, Power Grid, Dr.Reddy's, Coal India,Tata Steel and TCS and are among the gainers, whereas ICICI Bank, HDFC, Adani Ports, Tata Motors and ITC are losing sheen on BSE.
Some buying activity is seen in energy, oil & gas and metal sectors, while telecom, banking, auto,FMCG, finance and industrial sectors are showing weakness on BSE.
The INDIA VIX is up 5.37% at 13.9600. Out of 1,870 stocks traded on the NSE, 326 declined, 639 advanced and 305 remained unchanged today.
A total of 50 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 18 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
GNA Axles shares got listed at Rs.248, a 20% premium over its issue price of Rs.207 apiece, while on NSE it get listed at a premium of 21.74% at Rs.252.
Marksans Pharma jumped 10.9% to Rs.53.10 after the company announced that USFDA has granted approval for an Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for Loratadine Liquid Filled Capsules 10 mg.
Dilip Buildcon Ltd gained 2.5% to Rs.241 after the company informed BSE about Receipt of Letter of Award from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) dated 22 September 2016 to the Company for the Project Chichra to Kharagpur in the State of West Bengal under EPC Mode.
Vardhman Textiles Ltd climbed 4% to Rs.1,080 after the company said in a notice to BSE that it will buyback 6.13 million shares at Rs.1,175 a shares or 13% premium to Friday’s closing price.
Muthoot Finance Ltd dropped 1.1% to Rs.368 after huge block deal. Around 3.06 million shares of the company changed hands in a block deal.
IFCI Ltd slipped 4.1% to Rs.29.25 after news report said that the Supreme Court has ordered the Union government to ensure proper inquiry into the financial irregularities in the Industrial Financial Corporation of India.
Coal India inched up 1% to Rs.331.25. Coal India has asked for alternative coal blocks from the Mozambique government since it did not find any commercially viable reserves in the block it was allotted a few years ago.
Crompton Greaves Ltd is currently trading at Rs. 81, up by Rs. 0.65 or 0.81% from its previous closing of Rs. 80.35 on the BSE. Around 44 lakh shares were traded in a single block at Rs.80.
ABG Shipyard advanced 0.64%. Lenders led by State Bank of India and ABG Shipyard have hired investment bank Rothschild to find a buyer for a majority stake in the company as they struggle to save Rs 16,000 crore worth of loans given to it, as per media reports.
ONGC slipped 0.58%. The Board of state-owned ONGC has approved the signing of a preliminary agreement for buying a stake in Gujarat government firm GSPC's KG basin gas block.
Canara Bank is trading down on the BSE. The bank said it will raise additional equity share capital not exceeding Rs.1,128 crore, including premium, by way of rights issue, said a report.
NHPC is trading down after the government has put off the proposed share sale of NHPC to its employees citing 'technical reason'. Earlier, the Centre had said it plans to sell 6.288 crore shares of Rs.10 each to eligible employees at a discounted price of Rs.20.66 a share.
Rain Industries soared 5.3% after Rain Cements has commenced operations of a waste heat recovery-based power plant to generate up to 7 MW of gross electrical energy from waste heat at the Kurnool plant in Andhra Pradesh.
Reliance Industries Ltd is currently trading at Rs. 1126, up by Rs. 23.05 or 2.09% from its previous closing of Rs. 1102.95 on the BSE on the back of higher volumes. The company experienced a spurt in volumes by more than 1.81 times. The stock gained in 10 out of 14 trading sessions.
The rupee opened lower 12 paise at 66.77/$ against US Dollar Monday as against the previous close of 66.65/$.
Asian markets retreated in the morning as safe haven assets gained ground. Shanghai Composite and Nikkei 225 are in red. Wall Street closed lower. S&P 500 lost 0.57% to 2,164 points, on selling in energy stocks. Investors awaited Monday evening's US presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, which will take place early on Tuesday in Asian time zones.
India's foreign exchange reserves dipped by $ 1.679 bllion to $ 369.6 billion in the week ended September 16 the Reserve Bank of India said.
