Live Stock Market Updates - Nifty trades above 8750 mark

At 9:29 AM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 28,380 up 136 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,776 up 38 points.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.50% at 13,550 whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.69% at 13,213.

ONGC, Hero MotoCorp, Adani Ports, RIL, GAIL and Cipla are among the gainers, whereas Coal India, Bharti Airtel and L&T are losing sheen on BSE.

Some buying activity is seen in oil & gas, auto, pharma, industrial and energy sectors, while banking is showing weakness on BSE.

The INDIA VIX is down 1.42% at 15.3975. Out of 1,842 stocks traded on the NSE, 387 declined, 1,059 advanced and 396 remained unchanged today.

A total of 66 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 5 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

The rupee opened higher four paise at 66.54/$ against US Dollar Tuesday as against the previous close of 66.58/$.

Asian equities were mixed in early trading on Tuesday. Nikkei 225 and Shanghai Composite are traging in green, while Hang Seng is trading marginally lower.

Wall Street closed lower on Monday. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 0.30% to close at 18,253.85 points. The S&P 500 fell 0.33% to end at 2,161.20 points. The Nasdaq slid 0.21% to close at 5,300.87 points.

HPL Electric and Power Limited ("HPL"), a multi-product electric equipment company, will make its stock market debut today.

The World has said India's GDP growth will remain strong at 7.6 pc in 2016 and 7.7pc in 2017. The reasons are known- A rebound in agriculture, civil service pay reforms supporting consumption, increasingly positive contributions from exports and a recovery of private investment in the medium term.

Sensex rallies over 350 points; Metal, Auto stocks lead

Closing Bell:
Finally, the BSE Sensex ended with a gain of 377 points at 28,243. The BSE Sensex opened at 27,997 touched an intra-day high of 28,273 and low of 27,920.

The NSE Nifty closed with a gain of 127 points at 8,738. The NSE Nifty opened at 8,666 hitting a high of 8,745 and low of 8,635.

Among the 50 stocks of the Nifty, Zee, Eicher Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Hero MotoCorp, Power Grid, Adani Ports and Asian Paints were among the gainers, whereas TCS, Bharti Infratel and Bosch were among the losers today.

The India equity market opened higher on Monday on supportive global cues. The domestic market makes a sharp move after Pakistan PM Advisor confirms that India & Pakistan has decided to reduce tensions, as per TV report. 

The domestic market extended gains for the second day on optimistic buying ahead of the RBI policy review on Tuesday amid a firming rupee. The market are trading near day’s high led by strong gains among rate-sensitive sectors like auto, financials and realty.

The Nikkei Markit India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) a gauge of manufacturing performance settled at 52.1 in September, from 52.6 in August.

The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 28,248 up 382 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,732 up 121 points.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 2.20% at 13,457 whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 2.36% at 13,082.

Adani Ports, Maruti Suzuki, M&M, Hero MotoCorp and Asian Paints are among the gainers, whereas TCS, Infosys, HUL, ICICI Bank and Wipro are losing sheen on BSE.

Some buying activity is seen in realty, auto, media, capital goods, metal and pharma sectors, while IT is showing weakness on NSE.

The INDIA VIX is down 5.54% at 16.2775. Out of 1,871 stocks traded on the NSE, 212 declined, 1,394 advanced and 265 remained unchanged today.

A total of 55 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 15 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

On the economy front, Fiscal deficit in the first five months of the current fiscal stood at Rs. 4.08 trn, which was 76.4% of Budget estimates for 2016-17. India's eight core industries, which have a weight of 37.90 percent in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), grew by 3.2 percent in August, 2016 as compared to the same monthof the previous year.

The monetary policy committee (MPC) meets today and tomorrow and the new RBI governor will announce the policy post lunch tomorrow. The dollar is firming up while the sterling hit over a month-low after Britain set a March deadline for Brexit.

Market participants are anxiously awaiting the Monetary Policy Review on October 4, the first to be held under the newly appointed RBI Governor Urjit Patel and the first to be decided by a six-member panel.

On the global front, the US non farm payrolls report for September would come on Friday.

India's foreign exchange reserves increased by $1.2 billion to $371 billion in the week ended September 23, the Reserve Bank of India said.

India’s largest-ever spectrum auction kicked off with major telecom operators placing bids worth Rs. 535.31 bn across bands, even as the premium 700Mhz and 900Mhz frequencies did not find any buyer.

Combined market valuation of nine of the top 10 most valued Indian companies plummeted by Rs 57,065.11 crore during the week that ended on September 30. ITC's valuation plunged by Rs 14,883.32 crore to Rs 2,92,281.77 crore.

Nifty ends above 8,600 mark

The key benchmark swung between gains and losses but finally closed higher today. After opening on a flat note indices remained under pressure and slipped lower in the first half. Finally, a late bout of buying across realty, oil & gas, metal, industrial, auto, and energy and utilities stocks lifted the benchmarks although the FMCG counters continued to trade soft.

Finally, the BSE Sensex ended with a gain of 38 points at 27,866. It opened at 27,808, touched an intra-day high of 27,955, and hit a low of 27,716.

The NSE Nifty closed with a gain of 20 points at 8,611. It opened at 8,582, hitting a high of 8,637 and low of 8,555.

Sentiments got some support on IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde stating that India is embarking on significant reforms and will grow at more than 7%.

Among the 50 stocks of the Nifty, Aurobindo Pharma, Bank of Baroda, Grasim, M&M, GAIL, ONGC, Yes Bank and Tata Power were among the gainers, whereas Cipla, Tech Mahindra, Coal India, ITC, Ambuja Cement, Bharti Infratel and Dr.Reddy's were among the losers today.

The small-cap and mid-cap stocks rebounded even as the main indices extended losses after falling the most in 3-months following the nation’s attack on terrorists in Pakistan. In the broader market, the BSE Smallcap index gained over 1.9% while the BSE Midcap index was up 2%.

On the economy front, EPFO has decided to invest 10% of its annual incremental deposits or an estimated Rs.13,000 cr in the current fiscal in equity exchange traded funds (ETFs).

The India VIX (Volatility) index was down 6.88% at 17.1800. Out of 1,421 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,186 declined and 215 advanced today.

The rupee was trading up by 24 paise at 66.61 per US dollar.

On the global front, Asian stocks fell today as the rally in oil prices subsided and growing worries about the European banking system hit financial shares.

China's Shanghai Composite index inched up 0.23% to 3,005.51 after a private gauge of Chinese factory activity pointed to a modest expansion in September, adding to recent signs of stability. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and Japan’s Nikkei slipped over 1.5% each.

European stocks are trading lower. The FTSE 100 is down 0.89% while the CAC 40 and DAX have tumbled 1% each.

Cipla dropped 3.4% after the company said the US health regulator issued four observations across three facilities in Goa.

Liquor stocks rallied on the BSE after the Patna HC struck down the Bihar Prohibition of Liquor Act, calling it illegal. United Spirits closed above 6%. United Breweries zoomed 2%.

Alkem Laboratories Ltd tanked 8% after the company received 13 observations from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) after the regulator inspected its manufacturing facility at Daman.

Yes Bank gained 1.9% on its plans to raise up to Rs.2,500 cr by issuing long-term bonds on a private placement basis.

NHPC zoomed 3% after the company signed a power purchase pact with the Government of Rajasthan as well as Inox for a 50 MW wind power project in the state.

Sintex Industries jumped 7.4% to Rs.78 after the company said its board has approved demerger of custom moulding business and prefab business from its two arms Sintex BAPL and Sintex Infra Projects, respectively.

A total of 23 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, whereas 55 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

Liquor stocks rallied on the BSE after the Patna HC struck down the Bihar Prohibition of Liquor Act, calling it illegal.

United Spirits Ltd is currently trading at Rs. 2439, up by Rs. 131.55 or 5.7% from its previous closing of Rs. 2307.45 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 2325 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 2453.55 and Rs. 2325 respectively. So far 850646(NSE+BSE) shares were traded on the counter. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 33534.17 crore.

United Breweries Ltd is currently trading at Rs. 900.05, up by Rs. 22.5 or 2.56% from its previous closing of Rs. 877.55 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 879 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 908.4 and Rs. 879 respectively. So far 384241 (NSE+BSE) shares were traded on the counter. The Bihar government had instituted a tough prohibition law to prevent consumption of liquor in the state. Starting April 1 this year, country-made liquor was banned. Then the ban was extended to Indian Made Foreign Liquor, as per media reports.
