ITC, Godfrey Phillips trade weak

ITC and Godfrey Phillips is trading lower on media reports that the government moved to amend the anti-smoking law and proposed radical changes including a ban on sale of loose cigarettes and raising the minimum age for sale of tobacco products.

It has also proposed raising of the fine to Rs 1,000 from Rs 200 on smoking in public places, and recommended removal of designated smoking zones in hotels and restaurants.

So far, ITC has plunged around 4 per cent to touch a low at Rs 346. Now, the stock is down 2.32 per cent at Rs 352.

On the BSE counter, so far, 214,000 shares are traded, against its two-week daily average of 305,000 shares.

Godfrey Phillips slumped to a low of Rs 557 - down over 3 per cent from its previous close.

Now, the stock is down 1.7 per cent at Rs. 564.30 on volume of around 2,215-odd shares on the BSE.
