Hindustan Motors scouting for investors for revival of Uttarpara plant

In a bid to revive its loss-making Uttarpara plant in West Bengal, Hindustan Motors is scouting for new investors. The plant is facing a severe cash crunch and the production of the traditional Ambassador cars have plummeted to low levels. Last month, the plant manufactured 100 cars, which is considerably lower than the production capacity of 700 to 800 Ambassador cars per month. Hindustan Motors is India’s pioneering automobile manufacturing company manufactures passenger cars, Multi Utility Vehicles and RTV. It also manufactures passenger cars in the mid size premium segment (Mitsubishi Lancer, Lancer Select, and Lancer Cedia) and has brought the Sports Utility Vehicle (Mitsubishi Pajero) into the Indian market, in collaboration with Mitsubishi Motors of Japan.
