JSW Steel to import iron ore

JSW Steel is considering the option of importing iron ore in order to prevent any disruption in supplies of the key steelmaking input in the next two months, according to a media report.
The company's decision is expected to be influenced by two factors: Rupee appreciation and international iron ore prices currently at an 18-month low, the report added.
Last week, Supreme Court ordered an interim ban on 26 mines in Odisha in case of second deemed renewals.
The SC also ordered to stop operations of three SAIL iron ore mines in Odisha.
The apex court had granted Odisha six months time for renewal of licences. Tata steel procures over 75% iron ore requirement from Odisha.
The Supreme Court has allowed 14 mines in Odisha to continue operations and the next hearing on the Odisha mine case would be in the first week of August.
